2017 National Jamboree Meeting

We are going to get things rolling and have the first "Meet & Greet" Jamboree Contingent/Parent meeting for the 2017 Jamboree Scout and Venture Contingents on Sunday, January 17 at 2PM.  We will be meeting at the Troop 59/New Gilead Reformed Church Scout Hut, located at 2400 Old Concord-Salisbury Highway.

Orienteering Day Trip

Have you ever wondered what life was like before GPS? Have you always wanted to hone those compass and map skills? We have the solution for you! Join us on September 19th at  Stumpy Creek Park in Mooresville. We will meet at 8:15  am at Epworth and plan to leave no later than 8:30 am. Bring your compass, bag lunch , water bottle and day pack. There are 3 courses beginner, intermediate and advanced. We will plan on having a  contest on the beginner course to see who can navigate the course with the most accuracy and speed although if you would like to try your hand at the advanced course be my guest!  Cost of the trip is $5.00/person to cover the cost of gas! Will plan on returning to the church by 3:00 pm. See you there!

Backpacking in Stone Mountain Park

 Are we up for some backpacking? On Saturday October 24th we will meet at 8:00 am at Epworth with plans on leaving by 8:30 am and travel to South Mountain State Park where we will practice our hiking and backpacking skills. This trip is designed for both the novice as well as seasoned backpacker. We will complete an approximately 10 mile loop in 3 days in the park! Along the way we will see High Shoals Waterfall as well as some beautiful scenery! We will plan on returning to the church midafternoon on Monday October 26th. If you have never been backpacking this will be a good test run for the Appalachian Trail hike in May. The cost of the trip will be $25.00/person for scouts and $10/person for leaders. Be there or be square!

Applications for 2017 National Scout Jamboree

Council Contingent – The Central N.C. Council currently has been allocated 2 Troops consisting of 72 youth and 8 adult leaders and 1/2 Crew consisting of 16 youth and 4 adult leaders to attend the 2017 National Scout Jamboree, which will be held in New River Gorge, West Virginia at Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.  The council must inform the National Office of the total number of participants we plan to send to the Summit by the end of November 2015.  We will reduce the number of groups allocated if we do not have enough commitments by that date.  Please complete both the National BSA* and Council online registrations if you wish to be considered for this event.
